THARI KANJI (Semolina Malabar Iftar  Payasam)


  • Semolina(Rava) 500 gms
  • Vermicelli - optional 1 tsp
  • Sugar 4 tbsp
  • Shallots (small onion) - sliced 3 nos
  • Cardamom - powdered 2 nos
  • Risins 5 nos
  • Cashew nuts 3 nos
  • Ghee 3 tbsp
  • Milk 1 litre
  • Water 1 litre


Boil the water in a pan

Add rava, sugar, salt, milk and cardamom

Boil on law flame around 15 minutes and stir frequently

Heat ghee in a pan and fry shallows, nuts, and raisins

Pour the fried items into rava milk mixture

Serve the traditional Rava Kanji before cooling. Note: more thick, use more rava.
